As I started learning what Affinity was capable of, everything changed. Affinity Designer became my key to creating scalable artwork, exporting professional files, and finally understanding how to create professional artwork that I could sell.

I know how frustrating it is to download an app and never use it because it feels too complicated. That is why I created Affinity Designer 101 to help you skip the confusion and finally feel confident creating professional designs in Affinity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will this guidebook and video lessons take to complete?

The class takes about 30 minutes, and by the end you'll know how to use Affinity Designer to create motifs and build patterns.

Is Affinity Designer a good app to learn if I am a beginner?

It is never too early to learn how to use vectors!  As long as you have done a few drawing projects on your iPad, you can jump right into this class.

If you've never created anything on your iPad, my Procreate Foundations class is a great place to get started.

I already use Procreate. Why do I need to learn Affinity Designer?

The benefit of working in Affinity Designer rather than just Procreate is that you can create vector-based artwork, which makes your art scalable to any size (no blurry images!) and opens up the ability to use more professional companies (big companies often only print vector-based artwork!

If you'd like to learn more, check out my blog post on What Are Vectors and Why Would You Need to Use Them?

Why would I need Affinity Designer if I use Illustrator?

There are a lot of reasons to use Affinity Designer in place of Illustrator!  To name a few:

  • No subscription fees

  • Live pattern preview (aka you see your pattern repeated as you build it)

  • More tools (the Illustrator app is a very limited version of the desktop app, whereas the Affinity app has a lot more tools and options!)

I have a blog post here on Procreate vs. Affinity Designer vs. Illustrator that you may find helpful!
